Physicists of Underrepresented Genders (2023 – Present)
PUGs (formally Women in Physics) aims to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for UMD physics students of underrepresented genders and create networking and career development opportunities for members. I currently serve club president, as well as the web manager.
PUGs Book Club
During my time at PUGs, I’ve happily organized a weekly book club. Our goal with this book club is to create space for discussions about gender inequalities (as well as other critical issues) in physics and how those inequalities impact scientists, research, and our scientific community, all with a spirit of learning, fun, and community.
Past books have included:
High School STEM Summer Camp in IREAP
Program Director: Dr. Yanne K. Chembo I assisted in teaching an intensive two-week curriculum covering introductory linear algebra, chemistry, and physics. I also provided individualized support and feedback to students, helping to boost their confidence and academic readiness for college.
University of Delaware
Teaching, Department of Physics and Astronomy
I served as a physics laboratory teaching assistant for almost 3 years. During my time, I instructed labs for several electricity and magnetism courses developed for students ranging from algebra based physics to calculus based electrical engineering. Teaching assistant duties included preparing lectures introducing physics concepts, grading lab reports and exams, and creating new lab manuals and grading rubrics to aid in the transition to online learning due to COVID-19.
Courses Taught, Department of Physics and Astronomy
- PHYS202: Intro. Physics II (Algebra based)
- PHYS208: Intro. Physics II (Calculus based)
- PHYS245: Electricity and Electronics for Engineers (Calculus based)

Climate, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Committee, Department of Physics and Astronomy
As a CDEI committee member, I created channels for communication for all levels of the department through climate surveys and reporting resources, as well as provided other physics committees with quantitative CDEI consulting. These efforts resulted in changes such as more diverse colloquium speakers, greater student involvement in SPS and the Physics and Astronomy Graduate Student Society, stronger channels of communication between various department members, and more holistic interviews for candidates on all levels.
Faculty Searches
I participated in six faculty searches from 2021-2023. I, along with other CDEI members, interviewed faculty candidates to advise the faculty search committees. This was a really unique experience and I’ve learned a lot about academic job hunts by being on the other side of the table.
Society of Physics Students
I served as president of UD’s Society of Physics Students (SPS) for two years. As president, I prioritized reducing the barriers of entry that come with many STEM programs. For example, I collaborated with the Climate, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (CDEI) committee to cover the costs associated with undergraduate research involvement.
Other
Private Tutor (2014-Present)
I’ve been a math and science tutor for several years. My work includes tailored one-on-one instruction to over 30 high school and college students in math and physics, ensuring comprehension and mastery of complex concepts. I also provided personalized guidance and support to students applying to undergraduate and graduate STEM programs, including assistance with application essays, resumes, recommendation letters, and interview preparation.
Common courses covered include algebra 1, pre-calculus, calculus, kinetics, and electromagnetism.
